Invasion by Minaret?

Switzerland has all of four minarets in the whole country, but 57.5% of the Swiss voters just supported a national referendum to ban construction of any more. Key is swaying opinion was a billboard poster showing a veiled woman in the foreground. Behind her is a small forest of minarets, looking like missiles, on a Swiss flag. "At least for the time being, the minaret has replaced the veil as the dominate symbol of the tense relationship between Islam and the West," writes Christopher Hawthorne, the architectural critic of the Los Angeles Times . Read what Hawthorne thinks and see the billboard poster.

Billboards are mass communication, too.

It is discrimination. It's not right. But if these people are frightened, of course this is how they're going to react. People understand that others have a culture, and they'er willing to accept that. What they're not willing to accept is a percieved invasion and an altering of the established culture. yes sad for the muslims i agree, but muslims seem to think that they have an allah. In most Muslim countries Cathedral churches and even Christian Schools and Outreach activities is allowed to built and it is not a problem at all why then they ban minarat?

This poster was cleverly done to arose people's fears and feelings towards Islam and it's association with terrorism in the recent years. It just shows how cleverly-made propaganda is effective at "convincing" (brain-washing?) people's minds.

Its weird that with all the development in education , technology and just self improvement that the west reached to today, they still wont open up their minds about other cultures and especially the arabic-islamic culture. There will always be a racist fight between the east and the west in the media no matter how small the world is getting. reading the comments under the picture showed me how the media is capable of influencing the minds of people who "don't know" those people probably never even visited an Islamic country yet their media says we fight them so thats what they do.

its a media campaign against Islam and Muslims. they are discriminating between people by their religions. adding to that, they are scaring people from Islam and Muslims. they trying to build an image for the people to connect between Islam and terrorism. i think this poster shows how governments can control media and how affective is media in controlling people minds.

We as Arab accepted the westerners to wear anything they want and to build churches in our country so that have so they have to accept us too. This poster is so lame, I mean the Swiss or any other country against this should think. Can a veil or scarf or architecture hurt anyone? Of course not!!!!! So the problem is with them not us.
