This just out: UAE Nationals far and away prefer The National over the Khaleej Times and Gulf News, according to a study commissioned by the Abu Dhabi Media Company, which publishes The National.
"The biggest surprise of the survey is that The National is now, by a pretty significant margin, the number one English newspaper among UAE nationals. This is great news for our reporters and editors, but I can imagine that the advertising people upstairs are also fairly happy out it," writes The National's own "Beep Beep" technology blogger.
Why do you think Emirati nationals are so taken with the newspaper, which debuted only 18 months ago? Anybody in your family read it online or in print?

i think that many UAE Nationals educate more than many years ago and many of them spent there most of time on the internet everyday. for example, i always read online newspaper and i dont like to read the print one while my father and mother prefer to read the print one and in Arabic. i think that is because they dont complete their higher education or know how to use the internet. Reading english newspaper being a part of my everyday life because i feel boaring when i read the print one. My favorite newspaper is the Gulfnews and the national and i can get them free.
There's something about The National Newspaper that makes it a lot more interesting to read. You always find the greatest stories written in such an attention grabbing way. Even in the website, if you read Gulfnews and The National online you will find that The National's website is a lot more easier to look at and use. I always choose The National before any other news paper. Its not the same with everyone in my family though.
I personally prefer The National over the other newspapers because i find it speaking the language of our generation. I have given up reading newspapers because they are very intense with information and news and to be truthful it gives me headache. The way The National is presented is very modern and interests the audience's eyes. Even though the other newspapers have renewed itself i still find them old and dull. The National comes with the notion of "NEW" and new is always interesting.
i personally prefer it for the way its organized u see the local stories then the international stories and it feels non biased and sourced wich is the best
What i like about the national newspaper is that they post a lot of local stories which makes it more interesting to read and in a way it grabs the attention of the local people. I don't know why but i trust the national more then any other newspapers mentioned. i feel that they are close to us and understand what we need. Mostly the layout of the newspaper grabs ones attention and also it is well organized.
I think The National reached the people and get their attention with their new style and interesting headlines. They are choosing the most important stories in the UAE and the world. adding to that, the new educated generation would like the style and the way that The National is presented in. personally, i like The National more than any other English newspaper because of its style, attracting headlines and the effort which they had put in it to present it to people in this way so quickly.

Personally, I think part of the appeal of the paper is that it is fresh and presents a variety of issues that may appeal to a younger audience. For the most part, those locals who can speak English and Arabic often prefer to read two papers – one in each language. For example, in our family we usually get copies of a number of different newspapers daily, but I usually jumped to The National. Maybe because i met a lot of the people who worked there, that came to the university as guest speakers, and some who taught some courses at the university too. Maybe they knew how to grab our attention and made us loyal to this new newspaper, although there are older newspapers, that are found years ago.

the target audience for Gulf news and Khaleej news are the Asian people. in these newspaper you will notes that they always have the Asian stories in the first pages. maybe this is why it's not popular among local people. on the other hand, i think the target audience of national are the local people because they always post local stories in first page.
