We shall not cease from exploration/
And the end of all our exploring/
Will be to arrive where we started/
And know the place for the first time./
Through the unknown, remembered gate/
When the last of earth left to discover/
Is that which was the beginning...
T.S. Eliot, Little Gidding V
Click here to see what Richard Gere says about Burma VJ -- Reporting from a Closed Society. The actor is a practicing Buddhist and actively supports the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Independence Movement.
The movie was an eye opener! I enjoyed watching the documentary, yet felt sorry for the lack of information I had about it.
The documentary was based on raising the awareness of the Burmese government, how brutal they were with their citizens and how difficult journalism is in the country.
Some of the images in the documentary were mind blowing, for example when the Monks formed a line of thousands of people protesting on the streets! And some were violent, when we saw the foreign reporter get shot and beaten!
Overall , I agree with Richard Gere,I think the movie has to be watched and be shown to as many people as possible!
The film makers were able put together a great movie to show the way Burma’s lived. Moreover, I left the movie with so much information about this country which I didn’t even know it existed in the first place, I had more knowledge about the subject of Burma and what goes in there.
This document helped in raising awareness regarding the issue of brutal politics and government that the Burma’s are facing, which resulted from it the "Free VJs campaign" that is created to help this country. They have very brutal and controlling government, that monitors every single movement and specifically the images of their viciousness.
I feel sorry I don't watch this film and I don't know any information about it. But with the Richard' emotion I believe this film is very important and it is show the reality hat not every body know about it. I will see this movie soon enshallah
i did not watch the movie yet. however, i can see how hard it was for them to record this film. according to DrJ, some of men's faces "who did this film" were showed in documentary. by this documentary the government can look for them and arrest them.
from what i saw, it was really difficult to collect all these scenes together to come up with such sensitive movie which everyone is talking about. it is also a risk for all the people who participated in this movie because the government can arrest them anytime and some people already were killed. i think it is a great movie to show the whole world the pressure which is Burma facing.
