How Images Change Our World

Today in class I mentioned the 1972 photo of a naked child fleeing a naplam attack in Vietnam. Shot by an Associated Press photographer, it is credited with changing American public opinion and ending the unpopular war. What a coincidence that a story about "Girl from iconic Vietnam photo inspires" popped up on my Yahoo! desktop tonight!

Why do you think it became one of the most haunting images of the war?

I think this image is haunting because of the fear projected through the eyes of children being followed by armed soldiers. This image disturbs the eyes of the audience because of the reality of how brutal their situation was. The naked girl symbolizes how war deprives children from their basic human rights.

I think images really deliver messages to the whole world. people does not know what is going on in the war countries so these images might move some peoples feelings and change their ideas. As i remember Mohammed Al Dora images which spread all over the world in 2000 really led people to protest and ask to stop the violence.

check the images here...

In my opinion, this image from the Vietnam War had such an influential effect on American's opinions of the war because the photo itself shows the horrors of war.

The expression of the young child running without any clothes down the street demonstrates the real pain that brings the events to life for those viewing the photo.

Once an individual views such a photo this image leaves a permanent mark on a person’s mind. When referring to this event in the future, for sure this image will be recollected in the minds of the viewer.

Additionally, I think that when children or young adults are portrayed with such anguish and pain, it would be difficult to ignore and not react without emotion.
